Arrival of Plush Team Swap item today...

As I made my trek in from the freezing cold after a long hard weekend of work... thinking about nothing but warm coffee and a blanket to curl up with and breathing a long sigh of relief with a tinge of frustration... I approached my front door, only to almost lose my footing. There I saw, cowering behind the brick molding of my walkway was a tiny creature. I rubbed my eyes, I sure was tired and now I'm seeing fantastical creatures wherever I go! I took another deep breath and vowed to get myself to bed early tonight. I took a few steps closer to my door and the object, now in my peripheral vision, moved slightly but just enough for me to swing around to solve the mystery once and for all. I tried to keep my voice low and to let him know that I'm the least frightening thing he could run into outside in the middle of December. Feeling only slightly more comfort, he took a few teeny, wobbly steps toward me and into the light so that I could see his face. Out stepped the most adorable little trunkless stuffed elephant. A misfit!

I scooped him up in the palm of my hands and brought him inside where it was safe and warm. He told me he was really frightened and normally very shy as he was a misfit from the Island of Misfit Toys and...well...most people just didn't look at "them" the same way they did the other toys. I set him down just above the sink where he waited as I quickly prepared that coffee I had spoken of...he opted for some tea so I gathered up the water for that, as well.

I told him that as soon as I was finished I would introduce him to some of my best friends. He raised his voice in fear (as loudly as a wee bit of a thing could raise his voice) and he cowered again behind the spotted jar I had resting on the window ledge. I told him that he had nothing to worry about.

"I have shelves FULL of misfit toys just like you!", I said.

He peeked out from behind the jar and looked at me with his big black eyes, "Reeeeally?", he asked.

"Yes, really."

He scurried out from behind the jar and off the window ledge as quickly as he had sought safety not moments before.

"I wanna see, I wanna see!"

He hopped up into the palm of my hand and off we went to meet his new family.

He hasn't moved since. He's never felt more at home and more like himself ever in his entire life.

Thank you Megan of nonesuchgarden for this little gift of joy!
