Miss Bra Turtle is dedicated to the fabulous Cassandra Danz aka Mrs. Greenthumbs who died of this wretched disease. She left her words behind for me to find to bring me out of my shell and turn me into a gardener. Thank you.

Craft In America

PBS will be broadcasting a crafts program on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, from 8-10pm EST. Mark your calendar and check your local listings. Last years' segments of this program, Craft in America, not only contained gorgeous creations to look at but was also very educational as well. Those of us working in the plush world will probably find the Fiber category most interesting. Although I didn't notice any plush makers, the artists working with fiber are very talented and it is inspiring to see their creations. A fellow Etsy member, Jennifer Maestre, is featured in
the virtual Emerging Artist gallery. You might recognize her amazing color pencil sculptures. Mark your calendars, you won't want to miss this. And if you're wanting to learn more, there is book available as well as streaming videos on the website.

Venus of Willendorf as Interpreted by Zazu Faure/Los Angeles

Here is my contribution for our team Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser--a cashmere version of the Venus of Willendorf.

The Venus of Willendorf, also known as the Woman of Willendorf, is an 4 3/8 inches high statuette of a female figure estimated to have been made between 24,000 BC – 22,000 BC. It was discovered in 1908 by archaeologist Josef Szombathy at a paleolithic site near Willendorf, a village in Lower Austria near the city of Krems. It is carved from an oolitic limestone that is not local to the area, and tinted with red ochre. Since this figure's discovery and naming, several similar statuettes and other forms of art have been discovered. They are collectively referred to as Venus figurines, although they pre-date the mythological figure of Venus by millennia.

Plushstock Rockstars

Overall everyone in Plushstock 2009 had a great performance. Since this is a contest and you all voted it's time for the award ceremony. The contest all around was extremely close and everyone made great pieces. Now for the winners.
