I am new this year! I was attracted by all the great talent in plush team (I’ve known about it for over a year now), and how you all really seemed to focus on getting your names out there and selling plush as art. I hoped in joining I’d be spurred to be more active (I’m a terrible procrastinator), get good advice about things like craft fairs and where to promote, and meet other artists and share new plush we make to inspire each other!
2.) Do you have a favorite critter that you make? What makes him so special, hmmm?
I’m always making new things, but out of all my reoccurring designs I love my Chibi Quads (little 4 legged animals). They are very versatile and varied, and so cute! Though I also am a big fan of my Leosoars, I love the wooly manes! They are complex though and I can’t make them very fast, so I’ve only made 6 so far to date.

3.) What sort of fun stuff do you do when you aren’t delighting the world with plush?
I also make costumes/props, draw, write, and watercolor. I’m a real ‘doer’ as I say! In things to do, I like to play computer games, go out, watch movies, and browse the web. I also love camping, and swimming! I’m always up to something.
4.) Its so fascinating how diverse a group we have. What corner of the world do you hail from and what’s it like living there?
I’m from rural New Jersey, and I’ve lived here my whole life (Though I went to art college in Savannah, GA). It’s a nice place; I love it in spring with all the flowers! Fall is good cause of all the farm stands. It’s cold in winter and hot in summer, but never too much so usually.

5.) What’s the craft scene like where you live?
There are a lot of fancy craft fairs in the NJ area, most too much for me to be a part of, but I’ve been going to them since I was a kid and seeing cool crafts. We also have Ren faires!
6.) Which actor would play you in a movie of your life?
I don’t follow actors much, so I can’t think of a name that jumps to mind sadly.
7.) If you were a pie, what flavor would you be? I like pie.
Pie is GREAT. I’d be a Pecan pie...though Blueberry is close second!
8.) Is plushmaking your full time job? If not, what’s your “real” occupation?
I’m a part time worker at Joanns Fabrics at the moment. I make crafts cause I love it, and it gets my work into the world, but it’s also added income of course. I want to be in the animation/puppetry industry, doing stop motion and making props/puppets. I’m working on it...economy is so bad for the arts right now in them wanting to hire entry level. :(
Humm, there’s a lot to plush making, but between building a stash of inspiring fabrics/materials, and reading about sewing and patterns, best I can say is to just DO IT! The best way to learn and make unique work is trial and error. I can recommend get a GOOD sewing machine (if you use a machine), a cheap one will only frustrate you in the long run. Also glue guns are your friend to help attach small adornments, just always be sparing, messy glue gun work is the WORST. Lastly, be sure to use strong threads for things like attaching limbs or heads (IE hand quilting, button/craft, or top stitching thread).
10.) Is there another fiber medium you’re curious to try? Tell us!
I already do needle felting and wet felting, and I make costumes, plush, bags, and doll clothes, so I think I cover a lot of it!
11.) Imagine you are on a tropical island and can only take 4 things with you, what would they be? Extra bonus points if one of them is a hottie. (You’re being graded).
Oh my! Well, I’d take my computer (with magical power source/wifi to run it?), my drawing pad (with watercolors/pencils), my sewing supplies, and my girlfriend, so definite hottie bonus points for me? :D That’d be a fun island!
