One of my favorite things I’ve made so far is definitely the first of the Monster Totem Poles I made last year.
The Monster Totem Pole was originally dreamt up in a car on a road trip through Oregon. Driving through beautiful woods straight out of a fairy tale, the occasional breaks in the forest held touristy little log cabin shops, and every one of these seemed to have a totem pole accompanying it. The idea of course hit me to make my own totem pole, comprised of my own goofy, candy colored monsters.
This idea stuck with me for a long time, popping up in little doodles in my notebook for months before it finally manifested into this glorious creature. I think this first Monster Totem is my favorite because without any more planning than a quick doodle on a sticky note the morning of its creation, it came out exactly as it had appeared in my head. It’s pretty rare for me to have a plush turn out right the first time I try to make it.
This was also one of the few plushes that I was kind of sad to let go of when it sold. Still, I’m happy to know that it’s living in Germany right now. (:
