Plush Monsters for Horror Comics

Hi there! This is Lety RZ of Cretur Fetur and Stabwool, and I'd like to show you a little bit of what I've been working on lately.

In progress: different from my usual fare

Aside from needle felting, my other favorite thing to make and look at is comics. Recently, my husband Stevan (who does the webcomic Hobo Lobo) and I were given the amazing opportunity to draw a short story for a horror comics anthology curated by a really rad lady, Spike Trotman. The anthology is called The Sleep of Reason (after the Francisco Goya quote, "The sleep of reason produces monsters") and it features a bunch of my favorite webcomic artists. I'm all aflutter about being a part of this!

Now, besides having collaborated with Stevan on a 16-page story, I'm also dedicating my wool-poking talents to the cause. As part of the Kickstarter campaign to fund the printing of the anthology, I'm making five one-of-a-kind needlefelted classic cryptids. I've already finished the first one, a Flatwoods Monster:

The consensus on this guy: it was an owl

I'm also going to make a hodag, a Jersey devil, a Momo, and either a Beast of GĂ©vaudan or a Nuckelavee. If you have any cool cryptid suggestions, let me have 'em.

Additionally, I'm working on a larger, more complicated sculpture depicting the monster from our story. Here's a preview:

The fur is made of Tussah silk! Fancy!

There's only 10 days left to contribute to the kickstarter! So if you like one-of-a-kind, creepy needle felted monsters, and/or excellent non-cheesy horror comics that don't include zombies or vampires, check out the Kickstarter for The Sleep of Reason here. Thank you, good night, and may nothing eat you in your sleep.
