One of the pillars of the Plush community, and promoter of all things handmade here in Seattle, is the lovely Kristen Rask of Schmancy Toys. Kristen curates and hosts the annual Plush You! art show at her brick-and-mortar shop each October, and has been instrumental in making the Plush and Handmade movement what they are today, including co-chairing the Urban Craft Uprising craft fairs in Seattle each year. The reason that I am mentioning Kristen in this post is that a few weeks ago, someone broke into her shop and stole a bunch of her business electronics as well as cash. Kristen has been working her butt off the past nine years to keep her small business dream alive, and this was a brutal thing to have happened. A lot of us here at the Plush Team got our start in Plush art shows with Kristen and Plush You, and we feel that it's important to spread the word and help out someone who has always been so supportive of our chosen art form. If you need any plush or unique items for gifts this holiday season, you can find a lot of neat things at many different price points either in person this Saturday at Schmancy in Seattle, or in her online shop, and you'll be getting something cool to gift this holiday season, as well as helping to support someone who truly cares about handmade who has gone through a rough time the past few weeks.
There are many members of the Plush Team who are doing local craft fairs this weekend, as well as having Small Business Saturday promotions in their etsy shops, so make sure to check out the Team shop as well as the shops of our individual members, a list of which you can find here.
Thank you to all of you who are out there creating your own work for making the community stronger each day, and to those of you who support all of us that have chosen to take this path in our creative journey- we couldn't do it without you! :D
